Elections in Sri Lanka gives information on election and election results in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka elects on national level a head of state - the president - and a legislature. The president is elected for a six year term by the people. The Parliament has 225 members, elected for a six year term, 196 members elected in multi-seat constituencies through proportional representation system where each party is allocated a number of seats from the quota for each district according to the proportion of the total vote that party obtains in the distirc. The other 29 which is called the national list are appointed by each party secretary according to the island wide proportional vote the party obtains.

Sri Lanka has a multi party system, with two dominant political parties,and with extreme difficulty for anybody to achieve electoral success under the banner of any other party.

2010 - Parliamentary General Election Results
A parliamentary election in Sri Lanka takes place every six years. Present parliament was elected in a general election held in 2004. It's term is ending in April 2010. After the recently concluded presidential election, the much expected Sri Lanka General Election 2010 is scheduled now for April 8th.

2010 - Presidential Election Results
The Sri Lankan presidential election of 2010 was the sixth presidential election of Sri Lanka. The election was announced on 23 November 2009 when incumbent President Mahinda Rajapaksa decided to seek a fresh mandate prior to the expiration of his term in 2011.

2005 - Presidential Election Results
Presidential elections in Sri Lanka were held on 17 November 2005. Prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa defeated former prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and took office on November 19.

2004 - Parliamentary General Election Results
Parliamentary elections were held in Sri Lanka on 2 April 2004. The ruling United National Party of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was defeated, winning only eighty two seats in the 225-member Sri Lankan parliament. The opposition United People's Freedom Alliance won 105 seats.

2001 - Parliamentary General Election Results
Parliamentary elections were held in Sri Lanka on December 6, 2001, just a little over a year after the last elections in October 2000. Kumaratunga's People's Alliance lost the resulting general election, which saw the United National Front win the legislative power. The UNP's leader, Ranil Wickremasinghe, became the new prime minister.

The elections were called by President Chandrika Kumaratunga for October 24, 2000.
The PA remained in office but lost its majority. The resulting deadlock led to the 2001 election.

1999 - Presidential Election Results
The 1999 presidential election in Sri Lanka took place on December 21, 1999. President Chandrika Kumaratunga defeated Ranil Wickremasinghe to win a second term in office.

1988 - Presidential Election Results
The 1988 Sri Lankan presidential election saw the United National Party retain the presidency. Aided by its control of the state-owned media, the UNP candidate, Prime Minister Ranasinghe Premadasa, won a narrow but firm victory.
